When I type the phrase “blogging is” into my handy google search toolbar, a drop down menu suggests some rather pessimistic phrases: “blogging is dead; blogging is dying; blogging is stupid; blogging is for dorks; blogging is boring; blogging is over”, and a single, somewhat ambiguously positive suggestion of “blogging is the new black.”
What I hope is the most ironic part of this is that most of these phrases are stated by people in–where else?–their blogs.
I’ve seen some really great bloggery going on in the past few years, and I’ve also come across several mediocre blogs and a few downright awful ones. I like to think that my own blog hovers somewhere slightly above the haze of mediocrity, since I’ve garnered thousands of views over the past two years, and I know I don’t have that many friends and family who diligently check for updates every day (thank you to those who do, however). So there must be something mildly appealing about what I have to say.
In all, though, that’s beside the point. I didn’t start this blog for anyone but myself (though I’m immensely pleased whenever it is noticed and/or appreciated). And because of that I’ve decided to give myself a 100 day challenge. This summer my goal is to post a blog, every day, for 100 days.
Starting yesterday.
For the next 98 days, I look forward to the immense struggle of finding something remotely blog-worthy in my simple life each and every day. Even though many posts will not rise above the mundane, my hope is that the struggle will make me a better blogger. It will motivate me to create more often, and to take more photos. I may even come to a better appreciation of life, which is or should be everyone’s motivation for doing anything. It will certainly cause me to end up with one very well documented summer.
Happy Summer 2011. Thanks for reading.
oooh, I can’t wait! I love your blogging. 🙂
*blush* Thank you!
