As a professional house painter extraordinaire, I have a longstanding hatred of wallpaper…especially the really old kind that has been painted over multiple times and is pretty much impossible to remove from antique walls.
However, I was recently inspired by the artist Payton Turner, who came up with this beautifully ingenious form of colorful wallpaper:
(see more here)
I’ve been mildly obsessed with stickers ever since I inherited my sister’s abandoned sticker book collection years and years and years ago. I still have the book of course, though I’m not sure why I hold on to it year after year. Every once in a while I pull it out, and the colorful images inevitably pry loose many vague but happy childhood memories.
After the book filled, I couldn’t quite bring myself to get rid of stickers that I have collected over the years.
Some of the unused treasures of my collection are going on two decades old.
I’ve been meaning to take the time to do something with my stickers, and I had some grand ideas in mind. When I saw the sticker wallpaper, however, I knew I had to try my hand at it. This is the result of my first attempt.
Finally, I did some (crappy) Photoshop editing to get an idea of what my design would look like as its own wallpaper pattern.
I can’t count how many ways I love this idea. It reminds me of the lickable wallpaper from one of the very best books (and movies!) ever, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Expect to see more sticker creations soon..
Marie!! Gorgeous!! When you do an entire wall, I would love to see it in person 🙂
